You can take your car for an MOT at any time, but the test will only be valid for 12 months from the test date.
If you want to preserve the same MOT date, the earliest you can take your vehicle for an MOT is one calendar month before the expiry date.
For example, if your MOT expires on the 1st of February, you can take your vehicle for an MOT on the 1st of January, meaning your new MOT would be valid for 13 months.
If you're not sure when your current MOT certificate expires, use our free MOT check service to find out.
You can also use the book an MOT service to find test centres in your local area.

You can take your car for its MOT test up to one month (minus a day) before it expires and still keep the same renewal date.
You can consult: https://driftboss.online
For example, if your MOT is due on the 15th of the month, you can take the test on the 16th of the previous month, and the MOT will still be valid until the 15th of the following year.
This early testing allows for any necessary repairs to be made in advance, ensuring your vehicle remains roadworthy and legally compliant without affecting the annual renewal date of the MOT certificate.
